Pixel 9a Skips Key Features Due to RAM Limitations

The Pixel 9a, with only 8GB of RAM, misses out on key features like Pixel Screenshots and Call Notes due to its limited hardware capabilities.

The Pixel 9a, with only 8GB of RAM, will lack certain features such as Pixel Screenshots and Call Notes due to its limited memory. Google has stated that the device uses the 'Gemini Nano 1.0 XXS' model, which is loaded into RAM only when needed and accepts text input but lacks multimodal capabilities for processing images or audio. The Pixel 9a does include other features like Summarize in Recorder, similar to the Pixel 8, and Pixel Studio, which uses an on-device diffusion model for image generation. In contrast, the Pixel 9 series with higher RAM (12-16GB) runs a less restricted version of Gemini Nano.
