Pixel Phone App Introduces Real-Time Scam Detection in Beta

The Phone by Google app beta on Pixel is rolling out real-time Scam Detection. Users can enable this feature in the app's settings under "Assistive." When enabled, it runs automatically in the background for calls with potential scams and works fully on-device without saving call content. For unknown numbers, users will hear a beep at the start of the call and periodically afterwards to indicate monitoring. If suspicious activity is detected, the phone alerts the user, displays a red warning, and provides an option to end the call or mark it as not a scam. Google notes that Scam Detection on Pixel 9 series uses Gemini Nano, while the Pixel 6 and newer use other machine learning models.
