Powering the M4 Mac Mini via USB-C: A Hacked Reality

A YouTube video demonstrates that it is possible to power an M4 Mac mini using a USB-C cable, though the process is complex and not practical for everyday use. The demonstration involves opening up the Mac mini and soldering wires from a 12V, 3A power bank to the internal components. While USB-C cables can supply power (up to 60W or even 240W with certain specifications), they typically don't meet the Mac mini's maximum power requirement of 155 watts. This hack showcases the feasibility but also highlights why Apple hasn't implemented USB-C as a standard power source for the Mac mini. For portable use, users are still better off with a MacBook Air or Pro.
