Previewing Android 16’s Live Notifications with a Developer Demo App [Video]
Google is introducing 'Live Notifications' with Android 16, a feature designed to monitor and provide quick access to ongoing activities such as ridesharing, deliveries, and navigation. A demo app by developer Viktor Mykhaliv showcases how these notifications will function: they will appear in the notification tray showing progress and include a status bar chip for easy access. Tapping the chip reveals a larger notification that remains visible at all times, prioritized in the notification tray, and displayed differently on the always-on display lock screen. Users can disable Live Notifications for individual apps. The feature is similar to Samsung’s 'Live Notifications' in One UI 7, currently limited to Google Maps and a few other apps. Android 16's final release is expected around May/June, with ongoing beta testing for Pixel devices.
