Ransomware Rise: Q3 2024 Sees Surging Groups and Shifting Dominance

Corvus, a leading cyber insurance provider, has published its quarterly Cyber Threat Report for Q3 2024, focusing on the shifting ransomware landscape. The report reveals that the number of ransomware attacks is increasing, with 59 active groups now operating worldwide. There is a shift away from the dominance of major players like LockBit 3.0 and ALPHV towards a more fragmented ecosystem. Newer groups like RansomHub have seen a significant increase in victims. The construction and healthcare sectors are facing heightened targeting, and many organizations lack robust multi-factor authentication.
