Samsung Set to Leapfrog with One UI 8 on Next-Gen Foldables in July

Samsung is set to unveil One UI 8 based on Android 16 as early as July, potentially making it the first company to launch devices with the latest Android version.

Report: Samsung Launching One UI 8 Based on Android 16 in July with New Foldables

Samsung's One UI 7, based on Android 15, has faced significant delays, with the stable rollout only beginning next week—six months after Google finalized Android 15. However, it appears that Samsung is accelerating its timeline for One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16.

According to a report from SamMobile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are expected to ship with One UI 8 out of the box in July. This aligns with earlier reports suggesting that internal testing for One UI 8 is already underway and that Samsung might skip its usual X.1 and X.1.1 updates.

If this report holds true, Samsung will significantly improve its update turnaround time compared to One UI 7's delayed rollout. Google is also on an accelerated schedule for Android 16, potentially launching the update in June or July. This means that Samsung could be among the first to launch devices with the latest version of Android, a privilege typically reserved for Pixel phones.

While there is no official word yet on the exact release dates for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, they are likely to debut around the same time as last year's models, which launched on July 10, 2024, with an actual release date of July 24.
