Samsung Shifts Galaxy S21 Series to Quarterly Updates: What It Means for Owners

Samsung shifts the Galaxy S21 series from monthly to quarterly updates, marking a transition in support for these aging devices.

Samsung Changes Update Schedule for Galaxy S21 Series

Four years after their initial release, Samsung has transitioned the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra from a monthly to a quarterly update schedule. This announcement comes via an update to Samsung’s Security Updates Work Scope page. The change means these devices will receive updates four times a year instead of monthly. The Galaxy S21 FE, however, continues to get monthly updates for now.

Samsung is still committed to providing the Galaxy S21 series with four years of major OS updates and five years of security updates. While these devices are expected to receive One UI 7 (based on Android 15), it will likely be their final major OS update. Security updates should continue until January or February 2026.

Starting with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung has extended its support for Android flagships to seven years of both Android OS and security updates.
