Samsung’s DeX Redesign Takes Shape with Android 16’s Advanced Desktop Mode

Samsung DeX Redesign Likely Using Android 16’s Updated Desktop Mode
Samsung is working on a redesign of its DeX desktop client, which will debut with the One UI 8 update based on Android 16. DeX allows Galaxy smartphones to run a desktop-like user interface when connected to an external monitor. The new design includes several enhancements such as improved window management, a taskbar that opens to an app drawer, and a revamped Quick Settings panel. These changes align with the new desktop mode Google has been developing for Android.
The redesign was discovered by @DevOfIpos on Twitter/X, who tested it on a Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 8. Additionally, the leak revealed better integration with Galaxy Buds, increased use of blur effects, and a new Quick Share app. The Secure Folder feature now utilizes Android’s Private Space API introduced in Android 15.
Other notable updates include the widespread rollout of One UI 7 to older Galaxy devices in the US, leaks about the Galaxy S25 Edge with a smaller battery, and teasers for new designs in the Galaxy Watch and foldable lineup.
