Samsung's Now Bar: A Missed Opportunity for One UI 7

Samsung's Now Bar in One UI 7 falls short of expectations, offering limited functionality and lacking third-party app integration.

Samsung's Now Bar in One UI 7 has been a significant disappointment, despite initial high expectations. Initially promoted as a simple lockscreen widget to display various bits of information, the Now Bar remains limited in functionality. It primarily shows battery status, media playback details, and some sports scores. The integration with Samsung’s Morning, Afternoon, and Evening Briefs is also underdeveloped, offering only basic AI-driven suggestions that fall short of their potential.

Samsung had grand visions for the Now Bar, including seamless third-party app integration and more insightful AI features. However, these ambitions have not been realized, leading to a feature that feels bland and forgettable. The lack of third-party support is particularly notable, with apps like Google Maps being rare exceptions.

The Now Bar's shortcomings are part of the broader issues with One UI 7, which struggled with untested features and AI capabilities that were not fully baked. Samsung has hinted at improvements in One UI 8, including a new Do Not Disturb function, but more substantial enhancements are needed to make the feature useful.
