Scan Your iPhone for Pegasus Spyware with a $1 App

A newly-released app lets you regularly scan your iPhone for Pegasus spyware – which can access almost all the data on a phone – for a one-off cost of just one dollar.

A new $1 app allows users to scan their iPhones for Pegasus spyware, which can access nearly all data on a device. The mobile security firm iVerify created the app and reports that out of 2,500 device scans submitted, seven showed infections by the malware known as Pegasus.

Pegasus is made by NSO Group, a company that sells its software only to governments, including those with poor human rights records. iVerify’s scanning feature uses signature-based detection and machine learning to look for signs of spyware infection, like anomalies in device activity.

While Pegasus targets are often activists or high-profile individuals, the company found a broader cross-section of society was targeted.
