Matter's latest update introduces multi-device QR codes and NFC support to simplify smart home setup, making it easier than ever to integrate devices across different ecosystems.
Matter Update Simplifies Smart Home Setup with Multi-Device QR Codes and NFC Tag Support
Matter, a standard that aims to unify the smart home industry, has received an update (version 1.4.1) to improve user experience during device setup. The key changes include:
- Enhanced Setup Flow: This feature simplifies the commissioning process by allowing devices to push terms and conditions directly through the commissioner app, reducing the need for users to download multiple proprietary apps.
- Multi-Device QR Codes: For packs containing multiple devices (e.g., light bulbs or switches), a single QR code can now set up all units in the pack, streamlining the setup process.
- NFC Tag Support: In addition to QR codes, manufacturers can now include NFC tags for devices that are difficult to move once installed. This provides an alternative method for configuration if the QR code is lost or hidden.
These updates aim to make the smart home experience more seamless and reduce user frustration associated with setting up multiple devices from different brands.
