Spotify Calls for EU to Fine Apple Over Alleged DMA Violations

Spotify, the leading music streaming service in the European Union, is calling for EU regulators to fine Apple for alleged noncompliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). In an interview, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek urged Europe to enforce the law and address what he perceives as Apple's 'well-established pattern of delaying and stalling.' The investigation focuses on Apple's anti-steering rules in the App Store, third-party browser support, and fees for third-party app marketplaces. If found guilty, EU regulators could impose fines of up to 10% of Apple's global annual revenue. This is not the first time Spotify has pushed for regulatory action against Apple; in 2019, it reported Apple to the EU for allegedly abusing its monopoly by forcing developers to use the App Store's payment system, leading to a $1.95 billion fine in 2024.
