Square Enix Shatters Hopes for Dragon Quest XI S Upgrade on Switch 2

Existing fans might have to pay full price again to revisit Lotozetasia on Nintendo’s next-gen console.

Square Enix has officially confirmed that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch successor. However, the announcement comes with a caveat for loyal fans: the developer currently has no plans to offer a discounted upgrade or a free path for those who already own the game on the original Switch. This means players looking to experience the enhanced performance or features of the new hardware will likely need to purchase the game as a standalone title once again.
