Stripe Shows Developers How to Navigate Around Apple’s In-App Payment Fees

Stripe Enables Developers to Bypass Apple's In-App Payment Fees
Payments processor Stripe has released new documentation to help developers accept out-of-app payments for digital goods and subscriptions on iOS devices. This move follows a court ruling that prohibits Apple from preventing developers from directing users to web-based payment options within their apps.
Stripe’s transaction fees are significantly lower at 2.9% + 30¢ compared to Apple's 15–30% commission on in-app purchases. However, integrating Stripe requires more development effort and places additional responsibilities on the app makers, such as managing the checkout flow, handling subscriptions, and ensuring compliance.
Despite these challenges, Stripe offers greater flexibility, a broader range of payment options, and more control for developers. The company has demonstrated that it can provide a smooth user experience, including support for Apple Pay and subscription management. Developers can access the new documentation and a video showcasing how to integrate external payment methods effectively.
