Tecno Unveils Multi-Skin Tone Color Engine for Camon 40 Series: A Game-Changer in Inclusive Photography

Tecno unveils a new Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine for its upcoming Camon 40 series, ensuring more accurate skin tone representation across diverse regions.

Tecno Introduces Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine

Tecno, a growing smartphone company, is set to introduce its Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine alongside the upcoming Camon 40 series, expected to launch at MWC 2025 in Barcelona. This technology aims to enhance the accuracy of skin tone representation in photos, building on existing advancements in Tecno devices.

The new engine utilizes a color card with 372 patches and an updated image model to catalog a diverse array of skin tones, particularly focusing on regions such as Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Additionally, Tecno collaborated with the University of Leeds in the UK and Dar Al-Hekma University in Saudi Arabia to create a region-specific color card with 186 Saudi skin tone patches.

While Google's 'Real Tone' feature on Pixel phones also aims for accurate skin tone representation through computational photography and AI-driven adjustments, Tecno's approach emphasizes comprehensive datasets and refined algorithms. This initiative is part of the broader trend towards more inclusive camera systems in Android devices, driven by Google’s Image Equity Initiative.
