The Gorge Blazes a New Trail for Apple TV+: The Biggest Film Launch Yet

Apple TV+ Achieves Record-Breaking Launch with The Gorge
Apple TV+ has announced that the recently released film, The Gorge, had the best launch ever for a movie on their platform. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, the sci-fi/horror/romance/thriller hybrid is directed by Scott Derrickson, known for his work in horror and Marvel’s Doctor Strange. According to Apple, the film's premiere drove double-digit growth globally for the service and increased new viewers by 80% over the weekend following its debut on Valentine's Day.
This success marks a significant shift in Apple's film strategy. Previously, the company had mixed results with big-budget theatrical releases, such as Fly Me to the Moon and Argylle. However, by adopting a more Netflix-like approach of releasing films directly to streaming, Apple is seeing positive outcomes. The Gorge has outperformed even Wolfs, a film featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, which previously held the title of Apple's most viewed film.
Subscribers can now watch The Gorge on Apple TV+ for $9.99 per month.
