Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple may be considering making an Apple-branded TV, although this idea is couched in uncertain terms. Rumors about Apple making a television date back to at least 2011 when Gene Munster, then-Piper Jaffray analyst, long insisted it was in the works. However, large-screen high-spec TVs are now mostly commodities and even the best-selling TV sets have impressive specs for affordable prices. The author argues that while an Apple TV set is possible, there is no potential for dramatic future growth in this area.

The article discusses how Apple has evaluated making a television set, something it considered previously but did not move forward with. Despite the current market trend of low-cost, high-spec TVs, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has hinted at the possibility of an Apple-branded TV. However, given that this idea is highly uncertain and Apple has been focused on other product areas such as the Vision Pro, which offers more long-term potential for growth.

Rumors about Apple launching a television set have been circulating since 2011 when Gene Munster, then-Piper Jaffray analyst, repeatedly predicted it would happen. However, TVs are now largely seen as commodities with excellent specs available at low prices, making it hard to see how an Apple TV would be differentiated or justify its likely high price.

It is argued that while an Apple television set may be possible, unlike the Vision Pro which aims to establish a foothold in an emerging market with potential for huge future growth, there appears to be no equivalent long-term upside in launching an Apple TV.
