Trump Appoints Former Apple Car Lawyer to Lead Highway Safety Agency

An ex-Apple legal expert, rumored to have worked on the secretive Apple Car project, is making a high-stakes return to government as the new head of highway safety.

President Trump has appointed Jonathan Morrison, a former Apple lawyer believed to have worked on the company’s canceled Apple Car project, as the new administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Morrison joined Apple in March 2021 after serving three years as Chief Counsel for NHTSA during Trump's first term. His role at Apple is not detailed, but his prior experience suggests he was part of the legal team, possibly involved with regulatory compliance for the Apple Car project. Before joining Apple, Morrison spent eight years as Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs for the California New Car Dealers Association and later served as President of Auto Advisory Services, Inc. His new role at NHTSA will involve leading policy development for the agency.
