Trump Claims US Has Resources for iPhone Manufacturing
President Donald Trump asserts that the United States has the necessary resources, labor, and workforce to manufacture iPhones domestically, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. This statement comes as 104% tariffs on China are set to take effect, which will significantly impact Apple and its supply chain.
Leavitt emphasized that Trump aims to create a variety of jobs in the U.S., including both traditional manufacturing roles and positions in advanced technologies like AI. She referenced Apple’s recent commitment to invest over $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years, suggesting this as evidence of Apple's confidence in domestic capabilities.
However, Apple’s announcement focused on areas such as R&D, chip production, AI server manufacturing, and content creation, without mentioning iPhone assembly. Apple has also been stockpiling iPhone inventory to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
A separate report from 404 Media highlights the significant challenges and feasibility issues involved in producing iPhones in the U.S., suggesting that it may be more of a 'pure fantasy' than a realistic possibility.
