Unlocking Siri's Future: The Three Unreleased AI Features Set to Revolutionize iOS 18

Apple’s Competitive Edge in AI with Siri
Apple is set to enhance Siri's capabilities significantly in the upcoming iOS 18 updates. While most of the initial 13 new features, such as more resilient request handling, maintaining conversational context, and a glowing edge light, have already been released, the three remaining major upgrades are still in development:
- Personal Context Understanding: Siri will use an on-device semantic index to understand and respond to personal data like emails, messages, photos, and calendar events. For example, it can retrieve movie recommendations from past conversations or extract passport numbers from saved images.
- Onscreen Awareness: This feature allows Siri to interact with content currently displayed on the screen. It can process requests based on visible information, such as calculating walking times to locations mentioned in texts.
- In-App Actions: Siri will perform a wide range of actions across both first-party and third-party apps, from photo editing to cross-app data transfer.
These features are critical for Apple’s AI strategy and could solidify Siri's position as the leading voice assistant on iOS devices. The release timeline is expected to span iOS 18.4 and 18.5, with WWDC 2025 approaching in four months. If Siri fails to deliver on these promises, it may lead to calls for more open voice assistant integration on iOS.
