Gemini Apps Preps for Video Generation with Veo 2

Last month, Google hinted at upcoming features for Gemini Advanced, and the development of video generation capabilities using Veo 2 is nearing completion. This feature will allow users to create high-quality 8-second videos by describing their ideas, which will then be generated by Veo 2 in 1-2 minutes.

Veo was first introduced at Google I/O 2024, and Veo 2 was unveiled in December. The video generation feature will come with daily and monthly usage limits and is currently behind a Google Labs waitlist (VideoFX), with access likely starting on the Advanced tier of the Gemini app.

Inside the latest version of the Google app beta 16.11, strings reveal that users can generate videos by describing their ideas, and there will be options to play, download, and share the generated videos. The development of this feature has been ongoing for several weeks under the codename 'toucan.'

Google previously teased new creative tools for generating video, images, and audio in February. All Gemini users currently have access to generating images with people using Imagen 3, and Audio Overviews were introduced last week. The potential for further audio generation features, such as music creation, remains intriguing.
