Vodafone and AST SpaceMobile make history with the world's first satellite video call using regular smartphones, set to launch in Europe by year-end.

Satellite Video Calls Coming to Europe and US
- Vodafone and AST SpaceMobile Demonstration: Successfully demonstrated satellite video calls using normal 4G/5G smartphones between a remote location in mid-Wales and Madrid, Spain.
- Rollout Plan: The service will launch in Europe later this year and will be available in the US through AT&T sometime after. Full coverage is expected by the end of 2026.
- Technological Advancements:
- Appleās Emergency SOS via Satellite: Pioneered satellite communication for smartphones, initially with Globalstar, now expanding to SpaceX and T-Mobile's Starlink.
- AST SpaceMobile: Demonstrated space-based 5G connectivity, achieving a download rate of approximately 14 Mbps.
- Applications:
- Remote Areas: Will provide video calling, internet access, and messaging services in areas without cellular coverage.
- Emergency Services: Enhances accessibility to emergency services in isolated regions.
- Pricing: Not yet announced by either Vodafone or AT&T.
