WhatsApp for iPhone to Get Its Own Call Dialer Soon

WhatsApp for iPhone will soon have its own call dialer, making it easier to call people who aren't in your contacts by simply entering their phone number.

Meta has been experimenting with a new call dialer built into WhatsApp for iPhone that will let users call people who aren't in their contacts, making the process of calling easier and quicker.

  • The feature works similarly to the iPhone's default call dialer. Users simply enter someone's number, and if it’s registered on WhatsApp, they can call right from the app without adding their contact first.
  • Tapping the "+" button in the Calls tab in WhatsApp reveals the new dialer, which looks a lot like the native one for regular calls.
  • The feature is being gradually rolled out and is available to those participating in TestFlight beta testing of WhatsApp for iOS.

WhatsApp takes another step towards becoming an alternative to Apple's Phone app by adding this call dialing feature. The update arrives just as iOS 18.2 enabled choosing a third-party app as the default for calls and text messages, although it’s not yet clear if WhatsApp will support this right away.
