Why Your Galaxy Watch Face Stopped Working After Latest Update

Samsung's latest Galaxy Watch update brings Wear OS 5, but it also causes some watch faces to stop working due to the new "Watch Face Format." Find out why your watch face may have stopped working and what you can do about it.

Samsung has rolled out its first big Galaxy Watch update in months, upgrading users to Wear OS 5. However, this update comes with a change to how watch faces work, rendering some older watch faces incompatible with the latest smartwatches. The new 'Watch Face Format' is an updated format which removes executable code from watch faces, designed to conserve battery life. However, it results in older Wear OS watch faces no longer working on newer devices like Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. This update affects popular watch face apps such as Facer, which is currently not compatible with Wear OS 5.
