Apple Says Goodbye to Northbrook Court: Store to Close as Mall Undergoes Major Revamp
Summary Apple has announced it will permanently close its Apple Northbrook store located in the struggling Northbrook Court shopping mall in Chicago. This closure is unusual as it does not involve a relocation to a nearby, larger location. The decision comes amid the mall's redevelopment plans and the departure of several retailers, including Macy's, Lord & Taylor, and Lululemon. Brookfield Property Partners, the mall’s owner, is investing $825 million to revamp the mall, which will include affordable housing and high-end retail spaces.
Apple stated that employees at the Northbrook store would continue in their roles, likely being offered positions at one of Chicago's other eight Apple Stores. The closing date has not been announced, but it is expected to occur later in 2025, coinciding with the store’s 20th anniversary. Apple Northbrook first opened on July 16, 2005, and had previously relocated within the mall in 2017.
