Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed in his Power On Newsletter that Apple is planning to launch two versions of a HomePod with display, one as early as next year. The lower-end model (codename J490) and the high-end device with robotic arm (codename J595) will both support Apple Intelligence and run on a new operating system called homeOS. This OS is reported to be based on tvOS and might eventually merge with it. The lower-end product, which includes an A18 chip for Apple Intelligence, a squarish display, FaceTime camera and hand gesture recognition, was first reported by 9to5Mac earlier in the week. The high-end version, expected to cost over $1000, is said to have a robotic arm. Both these smart displays aim to bring Apple Intelligence into homes as currently none of their existing home products, including HomePod ($299), supports it.
