Instagram admits to reducing video quality if it’s not popular

Instagram admits lowering video quality if it thinks the content isn't getting enough views, making it harder for smaller creators to compete with established ones.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri admitted in an Ask Me Anything session that the company may reduce the quality of videos if they don't receive enough views. Mosseri stated that Instagram wants to show the highest-quality video possible, but due to the expense involved and the fact that most views happen at the beginning of a video's life, they will move to lower-quality for content that isn’t watched for long periods. Creators were not impressed by this revelation, with some arguing it makes it harder for smaller creators to compete.
