OnePlus Promises Smaller, LTE-Equipped Smartwatch Variants for 2023
OnePlus Teases Smaller and LTE-Enabled Variants of the Watch 3
OnePlus has announced that it will address two significant complaints about the recently launched OnePlus Watch 3: its size and lack of LTE support. The company's Head of R&D at the OnePlus Health Lab, Dr. Leo Zhang, revealed in an interview with PULSE by Wareable that a smaller version of the watch is in development and will be released 'this year.' This response comes after feedback from users, especially those with smaller wrists, who found the 47mm chassis too large.
Additionally, Zhang confirmed that OnePlus is working on adding LTE support to the global version of the Watch 3, a feature already available in China. The primary challenge lies in coordinating with carriers, particularly in Europe. If these negotiations go smoothly, users can expect an eSIM option for cellular connectivity.
The OnePlus Watch 3, known for its extended battery life and improved health features, is currently available, though orders are temporarily disabled due to a stock typo issue. These new variants could debut within the next few months, similar to the timeline of the OnePlus Watch 2R, which launched about 4-5 months after the original Watch 2.
