TikTok to Return to Apple App Store

TikTok, the popular social media app owned by Chinese company ByteDance, is set to return to the Apple App Store after being banned on January 19 due to failing to meet a new law's requirements. On January 20, President Trump signed an executive order to restore TikTok's operations in the United States for 75 days. However, companies like Apple and Google were hesitant to reinstate the app until they received assurance from the Department of Justice (DOJ) that no fines would be imposed.

The return of TikTok is due to a letter from newly appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi, which provided the necessary reassurance. Oracle, one of the companies hosting TikTok, had already enabled the app's operations on January 20. The ban lift's impact on other ByteDance apps, such as CapCut, Lemon8, Lark, and Hypic, is unclear. Marvel Snap, another ByteDance game, was previously restored to the App Store with a different distributor.

The legal challenges for TikTok continue, as the executive order only grants a 75-day extension until April 5, 2025. During this period, ByteDance must find a US buyer for TikTok or face another ban unless Congress intervenes to overturn the law.
