The new UK government is considering reversing its predecessor's refusal to adopt the EU USB-C charger mandate. Although all iPhones sold in Britain already use USB-C chargers due to the switch made by Apple, the UK government has issued a call for evidence over adopting a common charger based on USB-C.

The UK government is reconsidering its previous decision to not adopt the EU's USB-C charger mandate. The Conservative government had made this move in 2024, but following their electoral defeat, the new Labour government has issued a call for evidence regarding adopting a common charger standard. This move comes despite the fact that all major tech firms, including Apple which switched its iPhones to USB-C charging earlier than required, have already adopted the USB-C standard.
