Airlines Support iOS 18.2's New AirTag Feature for Lost Luggage

iOS 18.2 introduces a new feature called 'Share Item Location' for AirTags, allowing users to share the location of lost items with trusted third parties. This feature is particularly useful for travelers, as several airlines have implemented support for accepting location links from the Find My app. These airlines include United, Delta, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Turkish Airlines, Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss, Eurowings, and Iberia Airlines.
When a customer's luggage with an AirTag is lost or misplaced, they can share the location of that AirTag to help the airline find it. For example, United travelers can file a delayed baggage report in the United app and attach a Find My link to that report. Once submitted, United customer service agents can use the link to expedite tracking down the misplaced luggage.
Apple has implemented several privacy protections alongside this new feature, including automatic cessation of location sharing when a customer reunites with their bag, the ability for users to stop sharing their location at any time, automatic expiration of links after 7 days, and end-to-end encryption and anonymity.
