AirPods Pro 2 Gains Advanced Hearing Health Features: Protection, Testing, Media Assist, and More

Apple unveils new hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2 users, including Hearing Protection, Hearing Test, Media Assist, and Hearing Aid capabilities, rolling out over the coming months.

Apple announced new hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2 users at its recent event. The features include Hearing Protection, Hearing Test, Media Assist, and a Hearing Aid feature. These features focus on providing an end-to-end experience for prevention, awareness, and assistance of hearing health issues.

Hearing Protection actively reduces louder noise while preserving the sound signature. The feature taps into the H2 chip and leverages a new multiband high dynamic range algorithm.

The Hearing Test uses pure-tone audiometry to allow users to test their hearing with just their AirPods Pro and an iPhone or iPad, generating a personalized hearing profile.

Media Assist utilizes the generated hearing profile to further personalize listening experiences by boosting certain parts of speech or instruments within soundtracks for those with little to no hearing loss.

The Hearing Aid feature uses the results from the Hearing Test to provide users with mild to moderate hearing loss a clinical-grade hearing aid, providing personalized dynamic adjustments in real-time. It will launching in over 100 countries and regions this fall.
