Apple Evolves Complex Hinge Design for Potential Folding iPhone

A newly-granted patent shows that Apple has evolved its previous hinge designs, describing complex folding iPhone displays with intricate gearing.

Apple has been granted a new patent revealing an evolution in its hinge designs for foldable devices like iPhones, iPads, or even MacBooks. The new design includes intricate gearing with more complex interlocking mechanisms than previous designs.

The patented "Hinges for Folding Display Devices" shows four pairs of small cogs worked into a complex assembly of six static parts, suggesting the company is favoring a design with an interlocking mesh of gearing.

This seems to be a development from previous hinge designs that had simpler mechanisms with one or two larger hinges. The patent encompasses a wide range of devices and is credited to 10 inventors.
