Apple TV for Android Gets Major Update with Skip Back, Muted Subtitles, and Auto-Play Recommendations

Apple TV for Android introduces Skip Back and Muted subtitles, enhancing the viewing experience with auto-playing portrait clips and smart subtitle controls.

Apple TV for Android Update Adds New Features

Apple has rolled out a significant update, version 1.1, to its Apple TV app for Android devices. The new features enhance user experience and convenience:

  • Auto-playing Portrait Clips: The homepage now includes auto-playing clips in the main carousel, which serve as concise trailers. These are muted by default but can be un-muted using a button in the top-right corner. Users can also quickly add content to their 'Up Next' queue.

  • Enhanced Subtitle Options: New controls for Automatic subtitles include:

    • Show when Muted: Subtitles automatically turn on when the volume is muted or turned all the way down.
    • Show on Skip Back: Subtitles temporarily appear when you skip back, up to 30 seconds.
  • Auto-play Recommendations: A new setting allows users to enable auto-play of recommended content after finishing a series, movie, or sporting event. This feature is enabled by default but can be disabled if preferred.

The update is available now via the Play Store. However, the app still lacks some features such as new episode notifications and the ability to view previous iTunes purchases.
