Silence the Red Dot: Apple’s Messages App Finally Tackles Unread Badge Clutter

Say goodbye to notification anxiety as Apple explores a way to let you ignore muted chats without seeing that persistent red badge.

Recent code discoveries within the upcoming iOS 27.2 update suggest a significant quality-of-life improvement for the Messages app. Users may soon have the option to exclude muted conversations from the app's unread badge count, addressing a long-standing request from those overwhelmed by group chats or promotional threads. This change would allow the notification badge to accurately reflect only the messages the user actually cares to see, providing a cleaner and less stressful home screen experience.
