Apple working with regulators to enable AI features in China and EU

Apple CEO Tim Cook says that the company is working with regulators in China and the EU to enable Apple's AI features, branded as Apple Intelligence, in those markets. However, users in these regions are currently unable to access these AI capabilities due to legal concerns, including privacy and data processing requirements.
During a call with investors on Thursday, Cook said that Apple is "engaged" with both Chinese and EU regulatory bodies but noted that the company needs to understand all regulatory requirements before it can commit to enabling Apple Intelligence in those regions. The company has previously indicated it would launch Apple Intelligence this fall in US English with support for more languages being introduced over the next year.
While the AI features will be available as part of iOS 18 and macOS 15 updates, they require newer devices such as those equipped with an M1 chip or later or an iPhone 15 Pro. The feature set is aimed at creative professionals and includes tools like document editing in Pages, video editing in iMovie and Final Cut Pro, and new writing tools in the Notes app.
