CarPlay Ultra Debuts: Reinventing the Driving Experience with Seamless Apple Integration

Aston Martin partners with Apple to debut CarPlay Ultra, a new in-car interface that offers deep integration across multiple displays, promising a seamless and familiar experience for drivers.

Apple's CarPlay Ultra was recently made available, with its first trial taking place in an Aston Martin. This new version of CarPlay represents a significant step forward, integrating deeply into the car's displays and controls while offering manufacturers the flexibility to customize it according to their design needs. One of the key features is the 'local UI,' which integrates car-specific data points such as speed and fuel levels directly into the Apple interface. Additionally, 'punch-through UI' allows some native car functions, like a reversing camera, to work seamlessly within CarPlay. The system is entirely wireless by default, although wired connections are still an option. The instrument cluster can be customized with various layouts, including one that significantly expands the info square for more detailed information. The main infotainment screen now includes in-car controls without requiring users to exit CarPlay, and it respects user settings from their iPhones, such as language preferences. Overall, CarPlay Ultra is described as a slick, well-integrated system that could appeal to both existing CarPlay users and newcomers.
