Future MacBook Pro Could Replace Notch with Removable Rotating Cameras

A new patent application from Apple reveals research into replacing the camera notch on MacBook Pro models with a larger, protruding camera module. The new design could also feature a rotating display to allow users to reposition the cameras. This idea was previously patented by Apple in July 2024.
The proposed camera system would be thicker than the current notch but would provide a better quality camera for video conferencing and other uses. Drawings show that the camera module, which could include multiple lenses, would protrude from the MacBook Pro's lid and be positioned at the front or back of the display assembly.
One potential advantage of this design is that users could reposition or even remove the camera module, allowing for different angles or perspectives in video calls. However, there are concerns about how practical this system will be and how it would impact the durability of the MacBook Pro's display.
