Gboard for Android Introduces Undo and Redo Shortcuts

Gboard, the popular keyboard app for Android, has introduced new Undo and Redo buttons/shortcuts, which are now widely available after initial testing in January. These features enhance user experience by allowing users to quickly reverse their last action or restore changes. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

  • Accessing Undo: Tap the shortcuts menu to find the new “Undo” button. For better accessibility, drag it to the suggestions row. Tapping it will immediately reverse the last action.
  • Redo Feature: If you change your mind or removed too much, use the “Redo” button. Both buttons have accompanying icons and appear in the suggestions bar when applicable (grayed out if no actions can be taken).
  • Behavior of Undo/Redo: The last action is reversed one letter at a time unless an entire word or sentence was removed. The feature’s history persists even if you dismiss Gboard, as long as you remain on the same text field/app.
  • Availability and Version: These features are now widely available with version 15.0 of Gboard for Android and represent a significant quality-of-life improvement.

Additionally, Gboard has undergone several other recent updates, including the introduction of a new shortcuts button, tweaks to Dynamic Color, and the rollout of the voice typing toolbar on all Android devices.
