M4 MacBook Air Packs a Punch: Benchmark Reveals Unexpected GPU Power

Initial M4 MacBook Air Benchmark Reveals Same GPU Power as M4 iPad Pro
A Geekbench result for a device listed as 'Mac16,12' has surfaced, allegedly running on macOS 15.2 with a ten-core M4 chip and 24GB of Unified Memory. The Metal benchmark score of 54,806 is similar to the 13-inch iPad Pro's score of 54,023, suggesting a comparable GPU performance. This aligns with expectations for the upcoming M4 MacBook Air refresh, which is anticipated to launch in early 2025.
The new MacBook Air is expected to feature an updated camera system, including a 'Front Ultra Wide Camera' that will support features like Center Stage and Desk View. Additionally, it may come in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes and use a new Oxide TFT panel for sharper images and better battery life.
While the benchmark could be faked, the results are consistent with what one might expect from an M4-powered MacBook Air. The device is also clocked at 4.41GHz, similar to the 4.4GHz of the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro, which scores slightly higher in Metal due to its fan-based cooling system.
