Nationwide Verizon Outage Restored, But Not Explained

Verizon claims to have restored service across the country but iPhone and Android users are still waiting to be told what happened — and how it can be prevented from happening again.

On September 30, 2024, Verizon experienced a service disruption that lasted approximately eight hours and affected hundreds of thousands of users across the United States. Despite the company's claims that normal service had been resumed, many people on social media reported that it was still not working for them as of October 1st. Without information from Verizon, users presumed that the issue either stemmed from cell towers or the company's user database systems, the latter of which have recently come under criticism for inadvertently blocking many Apple Watch owners from activating their cellular plans.
