Pebble OS Resurrected: New Smartwatches on the Horizon as Google Opens Source Code
Google has announced the open-sourcing of Pebble OS, the operating system used by the popular smartwatch brand that was discontinued after Fitbit's acquisition in 2016. The release is aimed at supporting volunteer projects like 'Rebble' and potentially enabling new Pebble-like devices to be developed. Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, plans to create a smaller, more sustainable company to produce these new watches, which will run on the open-source version of Pebble OS and support existing apps and watchfaces. While there's no official timeline, the new device could launch later this year.
