Pebble Reboots: Founder Takes Aim at Apple with e-Ink Smartwatch and 16K Custom Watch Faces

Pebble Revives e-ink Smartwatch with iPhone Support
Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, has announced plans to bring back the e-ink smartwatch in 2025. The decision is driven by a perceived lack of similar devices that meet his specific needs. Key features of the new Pebble include:
- Always-on e-paper screen: Sunlight-readable and non-distracting.
- Long battery life: Reduces the need for frequent charging, especially useful while traveling.
- Simple user experience: Focuses on essential functions like time-telling, notifications, music control, alarms, weather, calendar, sleep/step tracking.
- Buttons: For easy control of music playback.
- Hackable: Supports a vast ecosystem of custom watch faces (over 16,000 available).
Migicovsky highlights the inability to create third-party watch faces for the Apple Watch as a significant drawback. He also mentions that an iOS version of the Cobble app, which will work with the new Pebble smartwatch, is in development. The new Pebble will run its original OS, thanks to Google's open-sourcing of Pebble’s intellectual property.
