The Rapid Rise of Passkeys: Over 200 Companies Adopt Passwordless Authentication

Passkeys have now been adopted by over 200 companies, doubling the number since last year. Major players like Walmart and Amazon are among them.

Over 200 companies have now integrated passkey support into their apps and websites, according to data shared by the company behind 1Password. This growing adoption signals a significant shift towards more secure and user-friendly authentication methods that replace traditional passwords. Major companies such as Walmart, Amazon, Target, PlayStation, Discord, and Canva have all adopted passkeys.

Passkeys, developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with Apple, Google, and Microsoft, use security keys or biometrics for authentication instead of passwords. 1Password revealed that over 4.2 million passkeys have been saved by its users, with an average of 2.1 million passkey authentications monthly. The milestone reflects growing trust in passkey technology across various sectors.
