US Government Investigates Popular Chinese-Made TP-Link Routers Over Security Concerns

The US government is investigating TP-Link routers over security concerns, which could lead to a potential ban on the popular Chinese-made device in 2025.

The US government is investigating Chinese-made TP-Link routers amid security concerns, which could lead to a ban on the popular home router. The Commerce, Defense, and Justice Departments have each opened probes into China's TP-Link.

TP-Link has significantly increased its market share in the US during the pandemic, and its routers are used by Amazon, hundreds of ISPs, and 65% of the US market. The company denies any wrongdoing and says it will cooperate with the investigations.

If a ban is implemented, it would be similar to the Trump administration's ban on Huawei technology in 2019 and the Biden administration's FCC declaring Kaspersky anti-virus software a national security risk in 2022.
