Plex Announces Price Increase for Plex Pass and Remote Streaming Changes
Plex is set to increase the prices for its Plex Pass subscription starting April 29, 2025. The new pricing structure will be as follows:
- Monthly: $6.99 (up from $5.99)
- Yearly: $69.99 (up from $49.99)
- Lifetime: $249.99 (up from $119.99)
This marks the first price increase for Plex Pass in over a decade, with the company citing rising costs and a commitment to enhancing both Plex Pass and support for personal media.
Key Updates for Personal Media Users:
- Common Sense Media Integration: Featured extras for Plex Pass holders.
- Bespoke Server Management App: Improved curation experience with better visibility into server usage.
- Open API and Custom Metadata Agents: Enhanced server integrations and metadata management.
Remote Streaming Changes:
- Remote Playback Paywall: Starting April 29, remote playback will no longer be a free feature. However, if the server owner has a Plex Pass, all users with access can stream remotely without additional charges.
- Remote Watch Pass: A new subscription option for individual users who want to stream remotely from any personal media server. Available at $1.99/month or $19.99/year.
Mobile App Updates:
- No More One-Minute Playback Limitation: The one-minute playback limitation on mobile apps will be removed, and local network streaming will remain free in the new mobile Plex experience.
