M4 Macs Expected to Drive Premium PC Demand Short Term

JP Morgan reports underwhelming PC and Mac shipments in the third quarter of 2024, but demand for so-called AI PCs like Apple's upcoming M4 Macs could drive a recovery in 2025.

JP Morgan's report reveals an underwhelming PC and Mac shipment during Q3 of 2024, with a decline of 2% year over year. The M-series Macs, particularly the upcoming M4-based MacBook Pros, are expected to drive premium PC demand in the short term. The overall PC market experienced a decline caused by factors including concentration on low-end models during the back-to-school season and a weakened economy. Despite this, the forward outlook remains positive as modest growth is anticipated into 2025 with a mid-single-digit increase year over year.
