New Gboard Update Brings Compact Voice Typing Toolbar to Pixel Tablet

Gboard Introduces Assistant Voice Typing Toolbar for Pixel Tablet
Gboard, the popular keyboard app from Google, is enhancing its voice typing experience on the Pixel Tablet with a new pill-shaped toolbar. This feature aims to provide more screen real estate when using voice commands by replacing the full keyboard view. The toolbar includes several useful options:
- Overflow Menu: Access to Settings, Voice Commands, Clipboard, and Translate.
- Emoji/Expressive Keyboard: A shortcut to open a floating window for emojis.
- Instructional Prompts: Displayed in the middle of the toolbar.
- Keyboard Toggle Button: To switch back to the full keyboard view.
- Microphone Button: For starting and stopping voice-to-text dictation.
The toolbar can be moved anywhere on the screen, including vertical layouts on the edges. Text suggestions appear inline next to the cursor, and a 'Toolbar' button is available when the full keyboard is open. This feature is currently rolling out with Gboard version 13.7 (beta) on the Pixel Tablet running Android 14 QPR1 stable. It's unclear if this will be extended to other devices like Pixel phones, but a similar UI was seen last year.
Additional Features:
- Undo Key: An option to add an undo key to Gboard for Android.
- Spanish Autocorrect: Improved support with better autocorrect features.
- Landscape Mode: Gboard switches to a floating keyboard in landscape mode.
