Apple's iPhone 16 line is set to receive an exclusive new feature later this year, likely with the release of iOS 18.2. This update will introduce visual intelligence to Camera Control, allowing users to interact with the world in a fresh way by leveraging the A18 chip, along with smarts from Apple, ChatGPT, and Google.

The new feature will enable users to learn about objects and places faster than ever before by clicking and holding Camera Control. This action will pull up information such as hours or ratings for restaurants, add events from a flyer to their calendar, and identify dog breeds. The technology also provides access to third-party tools with specific domain expertise, including Google searches for where to buy an item and the problem-solving capabilities of ChatGPT.

Apple's description of the update suggests users will have control over when third-party tools are used and what information is shared. While visual intelligence had not appeared in iOS 18.1 betas at the time of writing, all signs point towards it being included with the release of iOS 18.2. This would make sense given Apple's usual release schedule and their statement that the feature will arrive later this year.

Visual intelligence is set to significantly boost the power and capability of the iPhone's camera, providing users with a compelling reason to upgrade to the iPhone 16 line.
