Waymo One Expands to Silicon Valley: Autonomous Rides Hit the Heart of Tech Innovation

Waymo One, the autonomous ride-hailing service operated by Waymo, is expanding to Silicon Valley, specifically covering Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and parts of Sunnyvale, totaling 27 square miles. Initially, access will be limited to select riders before a broader expansion. This launch marks a significant milestone as it returns to the area where the Google Self-Driving Car Project began in 2009.
In addition to this, Waymo has recently launched its service in Austin through a partnership with Uber, covering 37 square miles including areas like Hyde Park and Downtown. Users can opt-in for autonomous rides via the Uber app. Upcoming expansions include Atlanta (also through Uber) and Miami by 2026.
Currently, Waymo provides over 200,000 paid passenger trips and drives over 1 million miles each week, highlighting its growing presence in the autonomous vehicle market.
